Camera Movements Task

TASK

Film a conversation using:

Establishing shot that zooms in

Panning shot to show character 2’s arrival

Shot / reverse shot not equal distance representing one character as less prominent / lower status

Arc shot / 360 shot – character 2’s reactions to dramatic news

Tracking shot as character 2 runs off.

Objective: to practise camera movements and evaluate technical issues around them / pros and cons for their use.

We had a lot of problames with this task. we know it was designed to show us that we have to be cautious about planning too many camera movements that we have seen in or research, because although we may want to use them, we literally only have cameras and cheap tripods and can only achieve certain effects well. At the same time, it made us aware that camera movement really brings a scene to life and we don't want to deprive ouselves of this.

  1. The tracking shot was quite bad. We may need more practice on this. The panning was okay but there is still room for improvement. I didn't see an establishing shot. The shot/reverse shot was average but it didn't seem to flow as well as the scene at the end where Rafael stormed off.

  2. Agreeing with David, I do believe that the tracking shot was not effective and that we need to practise more on this. The panning was okay but there is still room for improvement. I didn't see an establishing shot so next time we will consider this. I would say that our main objective is to practise camera movements and evaluate technical issues around them.

  3. I feel as though we need to make some major improvements to our filming and editing, there wasn't an establishing shot and many of our shots felt disorganised and the camera was shaky on quite a few of our shots, however, with practice and further planning, we will be able to improve upon these.

  4. I fell that we need to practice our camera movements. The shot-reverse-shot worked okay but it was very quick. When we do this for our coursework, we must speak slower otherwise it will not work. It will also be easier on the editing stage. The camera angles we need to practice more are tracking shot; shot-reverse-shot and we must include an establishing shot in our next piece.
