Researching Titles and Credits and Production Company Logos and Idents

Researching Titles and Credits

I looked at various title sequences on www.artofthetitle.com and summarised my ideas.

Thoughts on Titles and Credits

One thing made clear from my research, using the correct music to set the mood for the film is very important. In my group’s genre (zombie), the titles and credits are quite low key and they do not disturb the action. With various effects, like explosions from 21 Jump Street, these could work very well with our production. We could also do something creative, but visually low key. Creative ideas hold the attention e.g. credits appear in blood font in “Cabin in the Woods”. We want the audience to really engage with our main characters from the start and we don’t want the credits to affect this.

Summary of Findings

<Credits on a black background look sharp
<Fade in / and out often used to make transition between film / title screen
<Placement of titles and credits really varies from film-to-film
<Colour and font style have great impact
<Music is key for creating atmosphere, more than image
<Actors' names don't always appear
<Credits shouldn't stop the movie unless for deliberate effect
<In our genre, titles and credits often used creatively
